HUMILITY COMES BEFORE HONOUR

Humility, nowadays, seems like an expensive commodity – Men no longer humble themselves before God; children do not respect their parents anymore; employees do not regard their employer; students no longer respect their teachers; the elders are being dragged in the mud by younger ones; followers no longer follow the lead of their leaders. In short, it has indeed become a rare trait. Some even believe that humility is a sign of weakness, but in actuality, it is an indication of tremendous strength.

What then is humility?
According to Merriam Webster dictionary, humility is freedom from pride and arrogance; the quality or state of being humble. Being humble is showing that you do not think that you are better than others. Whether others hold one position or the other, a humble person honours each and everyone. It has nothing to do with weakness.

Humility is a QUALITY everyone must possess. Sometimes as humans, we always want to feel ourselves and show our ego, but this nature must not be at the expense of believing that we are better than others. Being humble is like a day-to-day activity. It is an attribute you have to demonstrate every single day.

Do you know that the act of greeting and gratitude is a sign of humbleness?
Some people are so full of themselves to the extent that they would not even greet their mates not to talk of the elders or the younger ones. This I-am-better-than-you attitude starts from not greeting. They would select the categories of people they would greet either by looking at their appearance, position they hold, or the kind of job they do.

On the aspect of gratitude, some people think that it is untill you give them tangible things or do something ‘big’ for them that that is when they have to show a heart of gratitude. This is not supposed to be so. You should greet everyone irrespective of their status. You should say a ‘thank you’ to anyone who extends a hand of help or gift to you.
The place of being humble before honour is a place of appreciating others.
One who desires honour must first possess this quality – humility.

Humility enhances the relationship between man and God; employer and employee; students and teachers; elders and younger ones; parents and children; leaders and followers; friends; families and so on. When you are humble, people will feel comfortable around you. They will want to get closer because they know that you will value them and by so doing, they respect you. You will be favoured wherever you go.
Also, you tend to influence others positively when you are humble. You will serve as a good example and a role model.
The greatest of it all is that even God will honour you.

Honour is the end product of humility. In the long run, when humility paves way for honour, do not forget to stay humble. Getting to the seat of honour requires humbleness as well as maintaining the place of honour. It is very easy to be caught up in the web of pride in the place of honour.
Remain humble in your journey through life.
