It is true that
The screams,
The piercing screams
The depression and deceptions
Started in the '80s
But
The hollering
The growling and
The deep throat groaning
Like dying dogs
Started in the '90s
It was we who saw
The now famous
Blinding colours of frustration
Even when we try to be creative -
Even when we try to break barriers
We were faced with the building blocks of agony
We saw many a dream shattered
And reshattered like splinters
Of a broken glass
They encouraged us
To be self-reliant -
They structurally adjusted us
We tried again
But every time we try -
Our unsteady hands
Continue to shake like leaves
Dancing in the harmattan wind
Where we are going to -
We do not have the road map
Where we are coming from
We do not have an idea
This flux has become a rollercoaster
With broken wheels.
