WHAT THEY SEE BUT WHAT I FEEL

My head aches
From the smile I force outta my brain
Hysterical euphoria... surfacing suppressed headaches
Sometimes I make a smirk
But it's unknown I'm in the dark
I'm hiding my pains and I'm wildly grinning
But inside - I'm groaning
I guess that's what the world wants to see
No one wants to see the scars you bleed
They'd make you hide-lick it and whine about it's resistance to heal
They'd still point fingers of chastisement when it turns repulsive like a stale meal
That's why I smile like a fiend
The next minute -I'm secluded and from existence I'm suspended
I'm prominently inflecting happiness like a raging inferno
But I'm deteriorating in the sadness and darkness of my shadow.

  1. Nice poem. Depression and mental illness are serious health challenges that are not getting the required attention in our society today.
