CELEBRATING 100 DAYS IN OFFICE: THE ACHIEVEMENTS AND PLANS OF THE 12th NASELS SOUTHWEST REGIONAL EXECUTIVES
The 12th Regional Executives of The National Association of Students of English and Literary Studies, Southwest Region, under the leadership of Comr. Oluwatomi Kehinde Odetola celebrates their 100 days in office with a series of exciting events.
These events are designed to engage students, showcase their talents, and bring the region closer together. The celebration includes an Online Gaming Tournament featuring Call of Duty and eFootball, an Essay Writing and Debate Competition, and the Face of NASELS Southwest Online Contest. These activities are aimed at promoting creativity, critical thinking, and active participation from all members.
In the first 100 days, the administration has achieved a lot. One of their major accomplishments is organizing workshops on journalism, public speaking, and cyberbullying. These workshops have helped students build important skills that will benefit them in their studies and future careers. The team also created a WhatsApp platform for Southwest NASELSITES, which now has over 1,000 members. The NASELS Southwest channel, which keeps students updated on events, has gained more than 300 followers. To keep members engaged, the administration introduced monthly challenges, encouraging students to participate in different activities. Another important achievement is the Periscope magazine, which has changed from being an annual publication to a monthly one, ensuring regular updates on what’s happening in the region.
Additionally, the administration successfully held its first Regional Executive Council (REC) meeting from the 13th to 15th of December 2024 at the University of Ibadan. The meeting brought together over 11 chapters and more than 55 students, making it the largest REC meeting in the history of NASELS. To ensure fairness and inclusion, state executives have also been appointed for each state in the region.
The 12th Regional Executives have also made sure there is fair representation by appointing officers across all states in the region. They have strengthened their connections with the Grand Patron of NASELS through courtesy visits, and regional tours to universities like UI and UI Abeokuta have helped improve the bond between schools in the Southwest.
Looking to the future, the administration has big plans. One of the most exciting is the preparation for WESTCOSELS 2025, which will feature fun activities like stage performances, a themed dinner with a masked ball, and debates. Students will also have the chance to participate in essay writing competitions, and well-known figures like Niyi Osundare are expected to give lectures. Another goal is to increase the involvement of State Directors in decision-making, ensuring that everyone has a voice in the activities of the region.
In conclusion, the 12th Regional Executives of NASELS Southwest have made great progress in their first 100 days. They have created opportunities for students to develop their skills, stay informed, and connect with others. As they move forward with their plans, the administration is focused on making the region stronger, more united, and more engaged.
