NASELS SouthWest celebrates World Book Day, urges more readership from NASELSites

The National Association of English and Literary Studies (NASELS), SouthWest Region, joins the NASEL South-West literary community in commemorating World Book Day, which is devoted to promoting books, literacy, and the indispensable influence of literature on society. 

In a press statement released by the Regional Director, it reads, 'Books are more than just informational resources; as stewards of language and literary research, we understand that they are potent tools for social change, education, and self-discovery.'

However, the Regional Director recognizes a decline in reading culture of young people. 'There is a concerning erosion in reading culture, especially among young people, in a time when digital media and transient content are taking over. Intellectual growth, critical thinking, and the preservation of indigenous narratives are all seriously threatened by this reality. We must thus reaffirm our dedication to creating a culture in which books continue to be at the center of knowledge creation and distribution as students, academics, and literary lovers. We urge NASELSites to adopt proactive measures to revitalize reading habits, support libraries, and guarantee that everyone has access to books, whether they are digital or physical', he noted. 

He, therefore, reiterates NASELS Southwest Region's will to continue to promote literary discourse, creative writing, and intellectual engagement through a range of programs and initiatives as part of our dedication to literary development.
